Hiking Day 3: to Pamplona!

October 04 2019

Day 3 and I’m so happy! I slept all night! And the extra 3 miles we did yesterday means today is only 12 miles! I started the day feeling like a million bucks. I was walking super fast.

My cute little hostel familia and I about to start hiking for the day

About three hours in, I started to feel my blister. On my baby toe. A LOT. I also started to feel my feetsiesss. I can’t wait till they’re conditioned enough to not feel so shit after two hours.

The landscape wasn’t as pretty today but towards the end of the hike, we just walked through towns to Pamplona. It’s really marked well- silver circles in the ground with the scallop shell marking the way. Along with giant painted yellow and blue signs on the ground or on posts.

Peep the scallop shell painted in yellow and blue on the street

Once I got into Pamplona, I still had like 40 min to go across the city. I saw an Iberico shop and stopped for Jamon Bits and Cheese snack. Soooo good.

Then I found my “hostel”. Pamplona is a bit more expensive for the options but I get my own apartment basically for €42 and a shared bathroom. I guess Ernest Hemingway loves Pamplona so the town has a bunch of his favorite routes as tourist places.

After I arrive to a town- I always shower and then throw laundry in. Very important if you want it back by the evening.

Then I went to go find my stamp for the day, and get a beer (well, 2)

It was like 2pm so it was just me and some old señores. I heard them talking about the Camino so in my gimpy Spanish, I joined in. Pretty proud of myself that I hobbled along – even if Quasimodo style.

Then off to find some fruit for tomorrow and an atm to pull out cash. They recommend you just carry €150-€200 at a time and hit up an atm every couple towns. I hadn’t run out yet but the cab from Bayonne to St Jean hit me hard, and I hadn’t really seen atms the other two days so figured I should.

I headed back to chill before meeting the Singapore lady I met at the hostel last night for Pintxos (or tapas).

Back at the place, I also had a blister to attend to. Pro tip: pack needle in a box of matches so you can disinfect it. Pro pro tip: your supposed to cover your feet in Vaseline every morning so you don’t have friction between your socks. And by the good lords beard- that is one tip to def follow. The one morning I forgot, I got a blister. Amazing how much discomfort skin with water can cause.

Around 6pm I walked back into the center of town to meet Liliyana. We split some plates and then of course! Desserttttt!
